#  As Easy As 3-2-1 - alfred's Gemlog


I use a variant of the 3-2-1 backup strategy: 

* 3 copies of data, on
* 2 different types of media, with 
* 1 copy stored off-site. 

My variant: "at least" prepends each of these numbers. 

The offsite copy is in a bank safe deposit box, swapped monthly. Media types include HDDs and SSDs.

I use rsync to speedily update my backups, and I only back up personal files, not system files. System files can be restored by reinstalling the OS from scratch (this tends to work better, too). After that, the backed-up personal files are copied back into /home/~.
