29 Aug 2025 ------------ Ye Banks and Braes There are loads of tunes/songs and people that contributed to the huge library of Irish and Scottish music. The very first one that I personally will mention will be Robert Burns, the second one will be Jim McCann. This song, if I remember correctly, is based on a tune named "The Caledonian's Hunt Delight". Robert Burns wrote a poem for a fair lady who was deceived by a false-hearted lover, and set it to the melody. I can't imagine how a Scot would feel seeing me taking about their music with my amateur view and understanding. Not to say it in disrepect, I don't find myself having a lot of trouble understanding Scots (as in spoken language). Of course words like scran, ilka, ken, etc. will be confusing at first. Anyways, it is a very well known song, and I heard that it is one of the songs that they will teach in primary schools in Scotland. The most common sheet music I usually see online are in D major, but magically it has no C# so it is playable on my 20b Anglo Concertina (It's a Lachenal, I am super beginner level due to lack of practice, my excuse is no self discipline, don't ask). Any Anyways, my point is there are so many versions of this song available, but I like the version from The Cast. I am not sure if they are still making new music, but the beautiful playing of the guitar with the seventh chords and the singing, it added a lot to the melancholic mood of what lyrics are telling the listeners about. I love this song so much that I once introduced it to a scammer on Whatsapp. They didn't reply me though... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
