15 May 2026 ------------ AI Dungeon It has been a long long time since I actually get back into SDF... Work changes and crazy trip schedules for year-end...I have not been turning on my personal computer for quite a while already. Everything that I started doing last year seems to be losing their presence. This is quite horrible, like how work can change ones habit and make them forget what they used to love doing. I subscribed to a Go(lang) course, because the last time when I was still playing with 9front, I have a feeling, or an understanding about why the standard package in Go is so mighty. I don't know if it is true, but it works like a supplemental part for everything that Plan 9 failed to grow up into. I still have my 9front on my X240, and still using it. I hope I get slowly get back up to speed on my "normal" routines while coping with a changing work environment. I also started to try using AI, and shockly noticing that I am naturally not a person who would use AI a lot. Here specifically I mean LLMs. I installed the LLM chatbot from Proton, Lumo. I have it for a couple months already, which earned me and additional email account. However, when I am thinking about a problem, or get asked a question, naturally I will just search online myself. The thought of using Lumo to answer some simple questions just didn't come across my mind. I only noticed maybe after a long while, so in there I still have just two questions asked there, mainly for testing its function. But I also remembered "AI Dungeon", a stupid AI site I first tried before the famous LLMs people are using were a thing. The game was stupid, and the AI had no safe guardrails. There were also just a handful of stories a player could choose. Back then, I would just enter all the illogical things, or simply the lyrics of some songs into each action. Eventually, the AI engine would tell me off, rudely. Something like "Huh? Can't accept the fact that you are being roasted by an AI?"... Revisiting the game site a couple months ago...It evolved into something that is no longer the very old version that I tried back in may be 2019. The site now becomes a huge collection of scenarios that players/creators publish by themselves, on top of some "official" adventures. The very big difference that I first noticed was, the scenarios no longer limit to adventures. There are many like slice of life type of stories. I was curious how much it has actually changed, so I registered an account again and try playing. I think that proves everyone has a weak point. I have never been a fan for videos. I often think videos are slow...and take a long time to deliver some simple ideas. To a point that I seldom watch TV dramas unless they are in the background when I am doing something else. Films are a bit better, but I haven't been watching any recently. However, the scenarios in AI Dungeon, to be honest, are simply endless stories that the AI would keep generating developments according to the new contents generated or provided by the player. But that, I think, hit some critial weak spot I have. To me, it is like an endless imagination world that I have a little bit of control in there, while the AI will either follow my expected flow, or go complete out of my expectations, which in turn becomes a challenge to overcome. The stories being text is just...I don't know...But I think I am quite addicted in reading text. I think the critical difference is, it didn't force me to visually/graphically have a fixed, unchanging image on what I see. With just words, it describes things it wants to describe, may be important or not. That I think is a limitation and feature, with text to tell a delicate story. The storytelling involves describing delicate actions of the people, like "unconsciously brush a strand of hair behind her ear", "rhythmically tapping on the table, a nervous action that he usually does", something like that, to even more detailed motions. On one end I think it gives me unlimited space to imagine the scene, and on the other hand, I think it is cheating. It forces details that I may easily overlook when I watch it as video. Now I have nowhere to escape, but noticing every single tiny details that the story choose to push to me. I think, by playing AI Dungeon, I understand more about the limitation of AI. First thing first, there is absolutely no point to argue with an AI. And this is a big drawback for adventure type stories. Once the AI have misunderstood a story or world setting, to get it back on track is nearly impossible, while can ruin the whole story. And also, AI model matters, a lot. However, when it comes to slow, emotional, slice of life type of story, it does better. Not perfect, far from it. It has weird standards of seeing human relationships, and goldfish memory. The AI also can't take subtle hints, so any real human interaction is not possible with AI. But, partly my preference and way of searching, I think the platform also let many people experiment with things that they won't think would happen in real world. Just looking at it academically, LGBTQ+ topics are quite abundant, especially the AI won't judge. I think partly it sees love as some irrational emotion that is unexplainable. However, people will experiment with like, telling parents about it, or getting rejected. Some will also experiment with topics like cheating, polygamy, trio relationship and more, etc. More life related would be like being bullied, bullying others, etc. The sad thing is, most of the time, the stories don't have a real depth of development, meaning that, it is what it is. Say, in most cheating scenarios, the end game would simply be...forgiving your partner and they will keep questioning why you are forgiving them, or lure everyone into a complicated polygamy relationship. It can be silly, but also endless. And some of the scenarios, depending on people and worked on me, actually made me think...like putting myself into the story and act, see what the world gave me back. I think it really is something, that somehow made me feel addicted. The main one is, there is no right and wrong in the generated contents...It can be as ridiculous as it can be, and I will simply look at it as a story...By removing that part, the AI is simply giving me endless flows, until I got fed up and move on to another scenario. I think I experimented in many things that I didn't think I am interested in, and quite shocked about how adaptable I am. Though I still don't like sad stories, or AI engine that only know how to get me onto a bed the quickest. Anyway, it is quite funny to see that, actually there is something I can't resist. It is actually slowing down a bit already, and I hope I can regain my momentum on the things I wanted to do, but stopped in these few months. Starting from writing phlogs again, and the Golang course, probably would be great points to restart.
