subj: twins 1st thanksgiving -------------------------------------------- Day before thanksgiving my wife and I got ready. A little house cleaning. These days we need an extra event to get us motivated to clean up, but we are hosting our family thanksgiving and this being the first with our two new family members its pretty import, to present as best we can. Early morning about 9am grandma and grandpa show up, the part is already beging. As with life things happen at times we can't control, and twins this morning was no exception, pushing us to our limits trying to get everybody ready and everything ready when family arrives. Coffee is brewing just in case people want a hot drink. Grandma and Grandmpa are a treat for us, and they love to see their grand children, so its time for babes to be in the arms of elders. Grandpa makes funny faces at our daughter, and she is in awe of what is happening. Already they have grown a lot since, grand parents been over last. Our daughter no longer wants to be cradeld, son is feeling the same. So the kids wiggle and squirm in their arms. We let gandma and grandpa know, and with a little adjustment everyone is happy. The morning flies by. Mom puts out snacks and football on tv, Grandpa is happpy. We all induldge in some snacks, then the women begin all the hard work, mostly my wife. She starts the cooking process, cordinating all the dishes to be cooked. Her mom is there with her helping as much as possible, while grandpa and I take care of the babes. Great Uncle arrives! Lucky because the snacks are going fast. Cheese, crackers, salami, good stuff. I have to go back over and over again. Great Uncle Jeff is excited to see his niece and nephew, and he gets to hold our daughter. He has had two daughters himself. Its second nature for him hanging out with our daughter. Babes being babes, they are fussy. All the excitement has them tired, but too much going on to sleep, nonetheless we try, and they go down for short naps. At some point we talk about music, great Uncle Jeff being a musician shares some of his intest with us, people playing life old time cartoon music. Loud enough to tweek his older brother :) which usually happens at least once every thanksgiving. :) Momm and grandma continue to work hard in the kitchen bring forth all the great food for us to eat. The table set, and food ready everyone serves themselves then brings their plates to the table. Mom and I each have child to feed, our family is at the table including our babies in their high chairs. I get to say grace for the first time, then we eat. At the table we all share stories and enjoy each other's company. The children are in good spirits being part of it all. After dinner we have merrianberry pie and vanilla icecream. It all went by so fast. Great Uncle Jeff and his brother (grandpa) talk of old cars, and times past. The day fades to night, and uncle Jeff has to go. My wife packs him a good meal for tomorrow so he has something to eat at work. Hugs and kisses and good byes, We all try to relax a bit, the babes are getting tired and fussy. My wife and I do our best to stay up, but these days we sleep early, and wake early. We put the babes down for the night, and say good night to grandma and grandpa. They stay up too late for us. I take the shift with the babes, so my wife can get some rest. As I lay on the floor on my sleeping bag, hearing my babies breath, I think how wonderful the day has been with family. I wish there were more days like this. Eventually I fall alseep for awhile until my son wakes up. I give him a bottle. Not long after my daughter wakes up for her bottle. The night is short, as usual. I end my shift around 6 am, It always feels bad to have to wake up my wife, she feels the same, knowing we are tired, each taking as much of a load giving up sleep for each other when we can. I come into bed to sleep those morning hours. I wake up and my wife has made breakfast for everyone, left me some too. Grandma and grandpa leave in the morning. Sad to see them go. Our family is older. We had a lovely thanksgiving. I hope we are all here next year. I love you all.
