Best paddling in my life

I hadn't ever have this fun in my life.
I rode sweet waves today, as fast as
I could, running from one to another,
excited as teen; at fifty four. Oh,
yes, it has been a great day today.

Yet it hasn't be my best paddling
ever. For I didn't watch the shearwaters
breaking the tide, nor the seals passing
through in splendor, nor the puffins
rushing back home.

Fun is great, I tell you, but it
pales before the quiet contemplation of
wonder.
