Beware of Julius Caesar ======================= This is an old entry of mine, from a defunct site. I bringing it back here on an edited form as, I believe, it's still very relevant. * * * Beware of Julius Caesar, of Alexander the Great, Napoleon and others such dictators who are remembered fondly. They tell us their victories and achievements, which is fair to do, but hide their attacks on freedom an the rule of law. These men were resolute, tenacious, shrewd, smart, learned, brave, charming and powerful. Such qualities are regarded as virtues, which they are, but of the ancillary kind. In other words they are "helpers"; they are good only as they help another good. They are evil if they are used for evil. It is true that a coward cannot do good when under pressure but a brave, evil being can put the world to the torch. Am I being a wee bit melodramatic? I might. But, I plead, remember my words when you spot a Napoleon-to-be trying to rule our world. Can you forget the atrocities such men have done and will do? Be wary of the great man, resist the next Julius Caesar who will bribe you with slaves brought from conquered lands. Some day, they will turn against you, too. 2025-04-11 18:18:27
