I've discovered you need no readers. Not if you're writing as a hobby. In fact, one you put aside the false need for validation, recongition or glory, it is liberating. Oh, yes, there's always that wee devil telling you that everything you write is garbage. But even if it is, the chief thing is that you're expressing yourself, letting your soul breethe and prosper. That is not the privillege of a select group of geniuses. Furthermore, you free yourself from pleasing the crowd, or whatever is in fashion; you don't need to kneel before the trending topics. Now, there's value in communication. What's written has a vocation to be read. Yet that must be placed in a proper context. If you're having fun with a soft, simple story that caters to your obsessions, well, that's a different missiom from that of a school book meant to introduce philosophy to twelve years old. The later needs readers, if it's not read by anybody in the targeted audience, then it's a bit of failure. But the former? Not so much! It's a game, indeed, a game in writing but in the most sincere, most primitive of games: making stuff up; just as kids do. You can dance as if nobody's watching, people say, and that can be pure joy. Again even this joyful kind of writing "desires" to be read. And it's good to share any writing. What was joyful for you will be joyful for somebody else, somewhere. So go forth, edit that thing and share it. But don't let the fruit of your hobby lead you to worry. It's not only wasteful, it makes no frigging sense!
