Hi all, its me, Chacha, writing my first PHLOG entry. I have 
quite literally just learned of gopherspace(?) while browsing 
around the indie web, from a poster in portuguese no less (of 
which I don't speak a lick). Saw the protocol "gopher://" and 
got curious. The roundabout ways to learn about something.

Maybe the personal novelty of "discovering" a protocol I've 
never heard of before is one big kick to the guts for the 
oldheads in here that have maintained this corner of cyberspace 
for years. Perhaps I'm carbon-dating myself in the process. 
Regardless, I'm a person eager to make tech work for me... 
perhaps that's unsurprising in this space. I've been switching 
browsers, deleting social media apps off my smartphone (which 
stays at home now) and adopting a flip phone which I really only 
use for talk and SMS. Have similarly set up a homeserver with a 
family member that we share via tailscale (soon to be headscale 
once we get the opportunity).

My tech prowess is limited. I would like to think that its a bit 
more developed than the average person but in a space like this 
I don't know right from left. So please bare that in mind if you 
choose to puruse what I'll hopefully post here in the future.

A bit about me, without going into the hairy details!

-I am a Canadian PhD student 

-I love art and especially music 

-I'm currently working on a garden at my housing co-operative 
with my partner and friends (its great getting outside!)

-I've recently gotten back into reading fiction for pleasure. 
Currently working through The Face in the Frost (1969) by John 
Bellairs. Absolutely whimsical book. Would recommend. Perhaps 
more of that in a future phlog entry.

-I'm in an amateur samba drum group

-I have a pet pigeon named Dijon

As I wrap up this rather crude intro phlog, an osprey is 
swooping around outside my window. It has been really getting 
into the grackle nests in my neighbourhood. Quite the sight to 
behold. Between that and the incredible number of canada geese 
with their goslings, and to a lesser extent mallard ducks with 
their ducklings its like there's a bird observatory just outside 
these last couple years. Maybe I'm just getting out more? Who 
knows!
