============================================================================== Title: Unexpected Slowdowns Date: 03-04-2022 ============================================================================== Towards the middle of the week a vivacious feeling of confidence took possession of me. I thought I've finished a first portion of the thesis work. What a big mistake. Wednesday morning a first test gave bad results, showing that a major update on the algorithm I was working on was necessary. "You have to break your head" told me my professor. And he was damn right. During the next days I desperately tried to extend the code, but nothing seemed to work. Only yesterday I faced the dire reality: my code was simply broken. The good results I had achieved were a lucky coincidence. I felt so miserable and lost. The whole day was spent searching for a fix. And hopefully a fix popped up. This week was a real roller coster of emotions. I think I can learn a lesson from all of this: excessive feelings are never a good thing when it comes to code.
