# Solo: Beyond the Pale (1) => ../../../static/solo-byt-licence.gmi Licence info I love tabletop roleplaying games. I play in a regular game, and intend to write about it on this gemlog from time to time. Right now though, I want to do an experiment. I backed the Kickstarter for Beyond the Pale - a horror OSR adventure inspired by Jewish folklore and mysticism: => https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lost-pages/beyond-the-pale-a-folktale-adventure Beyond the Pale kickstarter I'm going to play it solo, and record the events here. I have everything I need on my phone: the adventure PDF, a dice app, and places for notes. I have a little experience with RPG solo play, mostly using Ironsworn Starforged, and it can be really fun. This time, I'll be using Cairn which is a great game, also by the creator of Beyond the Pale - Yochai Gal. => https://cairnrpg.com/ Cairn Cairn is like the free open source software of its corner of the RPG space. Everything you need to play is available for free and there are plenty of additional resources made by the community and other games derived from its text. One of the experimental parts here is that in my previous solo experience I haven't used a prewritten adventure. Solo play often relies on "oracles" that give random prompts leading to unexpected plot developments. I don't know if I'll be veering away from the written content, but I'm eager to get to know Beyond the Pale so I'd like to use it heavily. I'm curious if solo play can be useful for trying out a module. Yesterday I created a character. He is a kettlewright named Berek. A big fella used to working metal into delicate instruments. I'll go into more detail in the next post. This will be fun! => ../../../tags/rpg.gmi tag: rpg => ../../../tags/solo-actual-play.gmi tag: solo-actual-play => ../../../index.gmi home
