# Solo: Beyond the Pale (6) => ../../../static/solo-byt-licence.gmi Licence info > I'm not too sure how travel works in Cairn 2e. Berek and his hireling Griya are about to leave town to go to the Blue Forest, so I'll check. => https://cairnrpg.com/second-edition/players-guide/procedures/ Cairn 2e procedures > OK. So reading this and the Travel in the Pale section of Beyond the Pale tells me to keep it simple - Travel from Kest to Bronfman's place in the forest is along a well established road. I'm going past one point of interest, so I'll say it takes one hour to get there and a second hour to get to Bronfman's. There's no chance of getting lost, along the road and with a guide. But there is an encounter table to roll on for travelling East of Kest. > I rolled that they encounter a tax collector who is suspicious that the Parnas (something like a mayor) is the pocket of the Holz Company. The Parnas is called Ayal. > Oracle: does Griya, the hireling, have any particular opinions about the Holz Company and the division in the town due to it? Yes, a strong opinion. Is he glad they have come? No. He sides with Aryeh, the Rebbe and Ayal's brother. As such, he is possibly aligned with the tax collector. "Here's Isa, out for the Korobka." Griya says. He nods towards a traveller ahead on the road. "Korobka?" "Uh... Korobka... tax for the upkeep of Kest. Everyone pays. You pay me, so now you pay!" Griya laughs gently. He's a companionable sort. We come alongside Isa. They greet each other and chat a little. I introduce myself briefly. Isa quickly turns the conversation to bemoaning Holz Company's presence.  "Be glad you've come to Kest now my friend, who knows what the Shtetl will be like this time next year! Another company town. No tradition left." I nod and ask if he's seen Karl. > Oracle: Has Isa seen Karl recently? Yes. "Karl, yes, he was at Bronfman's yesterday. I was collecting there as he arrived. A good worker, that Karl." Bored of that topic, he returns to the Holz Company and how Ayal will do whatever they say. There's real anger there. I wonder how divided the town is. We say our farewells and continue on to Bronfman's. "He seems real pissed at Ayal," I say. "Hmm. Ayal's promised plenty of money from the company coming here. The question is whose pocket do all those groschen wind up in." => ../../../tags/rpg.gmi tag: rpg => ../../../tags/solo-actual-play.gmi tag: solo-actual-play => ../../../index.gmi home
