one headlight november 27th, 2000 There are good things. These things include the shadows of clouds coursing through the mountains with the sunlight seeping through now and again, friends visiting for the weekend, the X-Men movie, Ash saying "Momma," the Wallflowers song "One Headlight," and coming home to a clean house when you least expect it. There are bad things. These things include take-home quizzes you forgot about, being reprimanded for helping out a friend by telling them what to expect on the exam they were about to take, books you still haven't read, and the kind of depressional funk November always leaves you with, because it's a sour month full of bad memories. There's got to be something better than in the middle. I have a lot to do, and even more to decide. After all, this is the first day of the rest of my life, right? It's all good. I've got laughter in my pocket, anyway. How could I help it, with a starfish around? Astronomy homework is calling my name, I wish it would shutup, or take a long vacation to china with my Rushdie and my Thomas Wolfe and let me just enjoy breathing for a change. If anybody asks, I'm hibernating. We can drive it home with one headlight...
