The Annunciation

Angelic countenance, within thy cell,
now calls thy humble name, except the saint
extolls thee, grace-filled without parallel.
E'en angels praise thy name without restraint!
This messenger for God's Almighty Throne,
possessed of powers manifold and great,
addresses thee with deferential tone,
befitting of thy holiness innate.
Did Gabriel foreknow thy queenship o'er
the universe and all the heav'nly choirs?
Nay, archangel will fondly kneel before
the mother of his Lord, as love requires.
Before her queenship, first her motherhood
gave mankind, angels hope for brotherhood.
