All right now, that's the ASU Lab Band recorded in concert at The Fowler Center on March 10, 2011. The song was "Afro Blue" and we heard dueling tenors plyed by Daniel Webb and Cody Ballard. Before that we heard "Laura" as played by Paul Moore on his new CD, Mandolin Magic". We'll hear some more from Paul's CD later in the show.

Mike Tomaro wrote this next song, "One For Oliver". On the sheet music site it says "this minor blues chart is a tip of the hat to Oliver Nelson's immortal Stolen Moments." We'll hear soloists Mike Ditto, guitar; Mauricio Dixon, piano, and Daniel Webb, sax. Here's The ASU Lab Band playing "One For Oliver".

Ron Horton directs the ASU Lab Band and the ASU Jazz Band. There's just something about the power and swing of a Big Band that thrills an audience. After a short intermission the Jazz Band took the stage.

We'll hear "The Red Door" featuring soloist Michael Newson on tenor sax. Then we'll hear a Charles Mingus tribute to Lester Young, "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" featuring Michael Newson and Aaron Decker on saxophone and Joseph Curtis on trumpet.

Now that's what I'm talking about. The ASU Jazz Band in concert recorded live at The Fowler Center. We heard "Julian", written by Phil Woods as a tribute to Julian "Cannonball" Adderly. That was Barrett Kelly on piano and Clinton Curtis on alto sax. Then we heard a Duke Ellington song, "Prelude To A Kiss".
