## 05 Tale of a pan I have many of sisters and cousins in the kitchen but I'm the older and I was appointed to talk in the name of the utensils in this kitchen. Yes, the owner of this blog is cooking with us. Cooking, that's a big word and as a pan, I saw many dishes or what you call food. I'm not here to judge but I'm not sure he's a big cooker. Just able to warm something, reheating, and sometimes burning a dish, but a little more than cooking an egg. If I'm an old pan, I'm not so old to have seen many cooks. I'mhere for about 20 or 25 Years, quite a good age in these ephemeral times. I'm still able to cook but I must admit that the secret is also with the cooker and the managing of the cooker fires. I've seen gas and electric cookers and I'm an old pan, unable to be used with an induction system. Cookers are sometimes more ephemeral than us, cooking ustensils. You, humans, you'll maybe invent dishes with a one-use cooker ? But my owner is not someone who changes everything each years, more someone to eat everything. I can tell you that there's always enough to eat, and more than enough. But nothing is thrown away. It's used for lunch of the next day. I'm very happy to be used to cook various dishes from everywhere in the world. French recipes, of course, but also Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Indian, Mexican, American, German, Spanish... It would be long to tell all the countries they have tried in this house. And there's also their cats who are very spoilt. It's not very complicated to cook but it they are happy with that. And out of the time of cooking, I'm lying in a cupboard with all my sisters and cousins. We are talking each others about cooking of course and what we can see of the life of this house. Oh, we could tell you a lot of things about them because the kitchen is the main room of the house for them. Always eating something or talking about food. Sometimes, they are testing more complex recipes, like during the end of the year for Christmas or New Year's eve. We are all on the cooker, changing between fires and hands, between successive recipes and a stop in the sink to be washed. I don't like that because we are sometimes thrown away between a warm fire and a too cold water. Awful ! I don't know how to swim and don't want it. I know that my time will come when a new induction cooker will replace the old one. Maybe a new kitchen... All my world will change and I don't know how I will be recycled. I've heard of accessories to make us ‘compatible’ but it's not so good. I'm ready to make efforts to live a lot more years. If I could talk, I could help to make better recipes, to avoud their mistakes, to tell them how hot I am. No need to have a thermometer, we are very competent to know that. Experience...We had ancestors in the middle age and even before. It's just a matter of material. I'm not a copper pan, not so toxic with a PTFE, the polymer from DuPont and Tefal... I will last more than you, humans, if you want it. It's sometimes just a problem with the handle. Don't throw us for that, it can be repaired with a drill. And don't forget how many good meals you had with us. 2Dɛ => mailto:icemanfr@sdf.org Comments by mail or by a reply on your blog
