## 06 Prepare

The word of my week was Prepare. First, we are are one week and a half from the Têt, the Vietnamese new year. And that's not an easy thing to prepare with special meals, many guests etc...For vegans, it's worse because it's not easy to find the "vegetarian" (we say Chay in Vietnamese) version of the iconic dishes. My secret is to find a Vietnamese pagoda but even around Paris, it's not easy to find the right Buddhist community. I have one at 30 km from my home. I had to reserve the dishes I don't know how to make, like the famouse Banh Têt (or Banh Chung) and much more. It's also a way to help the Vietnamese community in France for all the old people with a small pension. 

But it's also Prepare for "preparing the future". This week, we hosted an intern, a young guy in last year of B.U.T. (University Bachelor of Technology in French). He's 20 years old, quite as tall as me, ha ha ...and shy as I was at his age. He seems interested in what we showed him and he wants to work in the plane or automotive industry. Hum, perhaps not the better idea for the moment. He's with us for 4 months and if we could keep him after, it would be a good idea. For the moment, I have to find him interesting subjects. We are talking about uncertainty, measurements at 0,1 µmeter, etc. I have many ideas for him and now I will test him to see how autonomous and confident he is. I remember how I was at his age for the same diploma and in the team, there is also another guy with the same diploma... 30 years ago. The world has changed a lot and we saw it with mathematics. He doesn't know some essential concepts for us, but no longer taught before the baccalaureate and even after, nowadays. School is not ab
le to prepare for industrial and scientific jobs.

This morning I heard about Deindustrialization, a word to say that we have less and less industry in France (and not only in France...). We are making less and less goods and so we are buying more and more of those goods in foreign countries, especially in Asia. The last governments made late plans for Reindustrialization but do they even know what is it? I talked about my work a few years ago in the French Blog. There is only two companies in France left. You have to send often your materials in Germany or UK. Most of the employees are more than 45 years old. So even if we hire young people, it takes time to train them. And the worse things is about salaries, less attractive than in other sectors of activity. Same things than in Education, Health in France, compared to some bullshit jobs in marketing and communication. If you have nothing to sell or nobody to buy your goods...

And at last, Prepare for all the little tasks to do this year before the official audits and also internal audits. That's a quarter of my job and an important part of my colleague's jobs in the team. The main issue for me is to provide time for crisis, because we are there to understand issues on mechanical parts. Each year, we have small and great crisis and it's impossible to have a strong planning for that. I'm responsible of the planning and here to dispatch tasks to all my colleagues. For the moment, it's OK with our customers. But we need reinforcement. The other things to prepare is... retirement of the oldest colleagues. To be continued.
