# About Me I'm an old man who likes to think about things. I've never managed to fit in culturally, socially or otherwise. I'm mestizo in a world of close knit tribes. A foreigner everywhere I go. Honestly, that's OK. Anyway, here's some things I thought it might be fun to share. ## Why IPXFong? Ages ago, I needed a tag for Battle-net so I could lose Warcraft (not WoW, the OG) matches online. I was a Netware admin and a huge fan of Hong Kong action movies. These things are connected, I promise. I had been working on integrating local Novell networks which used IPX/SPX into a larger network based on TCP/IP. I had also just watched Wing Chun. In that excellent film, King-Tan Yuen plays Abacus Fong a character who is very good at math. I was feeling pretty proud of my networking chops and so I chose a version of her name for myself. thus, IPX Fong was born. ## Religion I never thought I'd end up being religious. But here we are. I'm a Buddhist. I generally follow the Mahayana tradition with a particular focus on Zen and certain aspects of Vajrayana. Buddhism has a reputation for being exotic and mystical but I tend to think of Buddhism as a particularly down-to-earth religion. At it's core Buddhism is really only concerned with the here and now. I live in a particularly conservative part of the world where it isn't always prudent to differ too much from everyone else so I keep my faith to myself. Books are my sangha. The authors who have had the most influence on my practice are: * Pema Chodron * Thich Nhat Hanh * Yongey Mingyur ## Contact If you want to get ahold of me, I have an email address here on SDF. Feel free to mail me there. What is that address you ask? I know I probably don't have to worry about getting spammed from Gemini but old habits die hard. if you are a human, you can probably guess my address without any trouble. ;-) I'm also (too) active on Mastodon. I'm IPXFong over there too.
