So long 770...

It's  not easy  to  write, but  my  Nokia 770  *the  very first  pocket
computer I  have bought  as a  new) is no  longer usable.  Something is
totally wrong here and while it  boots (both from flash and the MiniSD)
it always fails after a few taps on screen.


I have no idea what is wrong and I see no way to repair it (re-flashing
will  neat  I will  have  bare  system  without  any apps  and  without
possibility to install anything).

It was the firs Nokia's Internet Tablet - a 800x480 device with desktop
version of  the Opera browser,  with ability to  open 3 Opera  tabs and
still being responsible  and with relatively waste  area of open-source
software.

It has many  flaws, of course: 3  hours on WiFi were  the maximum (week
off-line wasn't problem,  though), the build-in WiFi  was obsolete even
when it  was released (2006)  the USB  was client-only and  the MicroSD
format also wasn't too much future-proof.

But it has a desktop development kit, it  ran X11 and Gtk+ so I used it
for many tasks for  some time. It overlived my N800  and the N810, too.
It wasn't usable as an "Internet" tables shortly after its release (and
the third-party Google calendar sync worked  just for one or two years,
for example) but it was able to run many Linux apps.

I  liked it  more that  the Zaurus  (it's Qtopia  environment was  more
hostile to  X11 apps - it's  embedded X11 server never  worked reliably
for me, actually).

Well, it's no longer available for me.
