29 March 2026 Sunday album currently spinning on the record player: "Call and Response," Zeke Manyika -1985 "seventeen faces--staring through my window and i wonder what they're looking for [...] something is worrying me nudging me, pushing me to see-- the sorrow of despair i don't have anything for anybody to be envious of, but i know i'm luckier than most [...] something is telling me everyday i should do something, but help-- where do i begin?" -side two: "17 Faces" i was happy to find an insert of the lyrics for all the songs inside the record sleeve! made progress with the wooden modular/ eurorack case today. i have the rails attached to the sides, and just drew some design sketches to be sure i cut the bottom, back, front and top correctly. i want the tall back to swing open down- wards, and the low front to open like french doors. the bus boards will be on an angled shelf inside, and beneath that will be storage for the power cord, cables, etc. (this will be accessed from the back). earlier, i attended a virtual modular synth recital with performances by classmates from the Patching With Modular Synths online class i took recently. one set felt like being on a mine cart tour of an underground city spread through a series of tunnels, encountering carbonated flurries of organisms and twinkling computer systems. last night we went to a vinyl 'open decks' DJ night at the home of a newer friend. it was her last night in the place, which she'd treated as a communal gathering place for artists and oddballs. in this out-of-the way, post-industrial-meets-nature area where we've lived the last 2.5 years, it's been hard to find kindred spirits. i'm grateful we found her. she made a beautiful installation for this last night, with fans billowing a thin translucent sheet in blue light, tied in places so it felt like being in a wave tunnel at night. a mirror in a fire-place (this is a former rectory in an old church where she was staying). baby's breath in a little vase on the floor. a harp to play and various out-of-place objects: bicycle cardboard spaceheater accordion, more. folks were welcome to interact and move things. it felt very liminal and dreamy and a little bit holy.
