Only one more day 'till America's birthday! This one I'm definitely looking forward to. Call me jingostic if you's must, but though I know the USA's a flawed gem, when it shines, it shines like no other place in the world! There may be a few cracks, a few scuff marks here and there, and there might be a chunk of it missing worst-case, but I'm still proud to be an American, and if you don't like it, neener neener, go cry in a corner. (Halloween's still the best holiday, though.) Other than that... still not a lot going on around here. Still a pretty boring life over at the family home 'till I'm back at the academic grindstone... eh, I don't mind it. Sure as hell beats the dumpster fire going on in NYC or worse, California. And even then, at least they don't gotta worry about being the poor sods having to live in the UK: One wrong opinion, and off to jail you go. Thank god for the Constitution, I'll tell you that much. As for the goings-on and the ons-going... mostly just Doom/Heretic mapping, and a new release of wepon.pk3, which hopefully should be included in a related linksoon. However, I've also been dipping my toes in DOS programming! Thanks to good 'ol OpenWatcom, no longer does DOSBox, 86Box, and other related emulators have to be glorified nostalgia programs: Homebrew's totally possible, and I really hope to have a game up and running on an 8088-based platform soon! Nothing too ambitious yet, probably a text-based game and a simple raycaster after that. But, if I'm beinh honest, my procrastination and my lack of focus at the moment is really not doing me any favors right now. I don't know if it's due to a full -blown ADHD, ADD, or if I'm just simply lazy, but I really need to focus on my hobbies. Scrolling Twitter does not help. I don't really participate in any- thing overly poltiical, but the allure of anime titties is not helping me kick the habit any. Bluesky isn't better, of course, but that just comes with the territory. Problem-O Number-O Two-O: It's way too easy to fall into the rabbit hole of asking Large Language models over and over again for help. They might work as productivity multipliers, but it's too eas to become codepenent on the things, and that's when vibe coding, and all the problems that come with it, start. I already feel kinda dirty asking Claude/Gemini for help on what functions do, or what some errors mean in certain contexts, I don't need me to make my problem worse! I do wanna see about maybe releasing a commerical DOS game someday, but that's gonna have to come later down the road, when I'm not a complete idiot on how rendering and code works. Or at the very least, try to find someone willing to help me when I'm having the dumbest problems with code, and/or to find somone willing to help keep my focus razor sharp, or even help me advertise and sell the game(s). And, y'know, totally not just sucker someone into doing my dirty bidding. Not that I'd EVER do THAT, of course! Life in Linux world is still as unchanged as before, but at least most of the XLibre-related controversies over there died down. The fellas over at Alpine and Chimera aren't so lucky though, but at least there's a third party solution out there so at least they's aint shit outta luck. ...and oh yeah the internet's also yelling at Sony a lot about shutting down physical releases. Reduced disc production sucks, but I never bought a Sony in my life, so I don't care too much. I'm glad to have a PC. Might wanna consider picking up the slack Sony's gonna leave behind though, disc manufacturers. Anyways, U! S! A! U! S! A! U! S! A!
