Yeah, it's probably not a smart idea to drag in the discourse that happens over in HTTP-space to gopherspace... but right now, I've got more than a few pounds of beef with payment processors. It was already enough of an suspicious alliance, encouraging the whole 'no-cash' thing and letting Visa/Mastercard govern an outright absurd amount of USA's economic sphere. But now that they can pretty much tell whoever, and whatever they want, "Yeah, we know you're not breaking the law at all, but fuck you, you don't get to participate in the market at all"? Yeah, I'm not very happy about that at the moment. It's not just me either, almost all of the modern internet I've seen are outright FURIOUS at Visa/MasterCard right now. Sure, it may only affect NSFW, R-18, and AO titles right now... but if history has taught us one thing, the censorship we pair with dictatorships NEVER starts at it's final form. It almost HAS to be introduced, piece by piece, one set of appproved transactions at a time. And when it does, it always starts at the NSFW. I do not want to give up the free market anytime soon, as despite all the problems and flaws it has, I'd like to be able to earn and spend my money freely. And so long as you're not dishing out actual harm to actual people, I think anyone should be free to do the same. Some of you might be looking at me a bit funny at this point, but I've come to accept that. With the recent bans from itch.io and Steam in mind, you're probably thinkin', "But matrix, aren't a giant chunk of those games centered around stuff considered reprehensible? Y'know... like rape, beastiality, blackmail, general sexual assault, and other unsavoury material?" Look, I get it. It's not a good look for a storefront (or a person) to own these sort of things. Some of that shit genuinely sends chills right up my spine, and this is coming from someone who's seen the depths of the internet. I really do understand why you might not want that sort of thing anywhere. But keep in mind, that's FICTION. Virtual applications containing drawings (or CG renders) made to RESEMBLE humans (or the human-related), not BE actual humans. It might be ugly and genuinely disgusting, but real people aren't getting harmed. There is the issue of actor blackmail, the hive of scum known as Hollywood, and the general issue of directors/authors being abusive little shits, but then that becomes an actual issue because actual people are getting harmed. If fiction IS able to affect reality, it sure as hell ain't on the 1:1 ratio some claim it to be. And right now, it seems the people responsible for handling the purchases of potentially EVERYONE ON THE PLANET aren't quite so inclined to agree. Yeah, I'm pretty cranky, salty, and angry about it, and I think I have every right to be. What's it worth living in a free society if I'm not allowed to raise my anger? (On a completely seperate note, I think I use commas too much. Hard to tell when to split a sentence or not.)
