It's lonely at the top I guess. Comradery can be a difficult thing to find; pets often fill the void. After the age of 7, "Let's be friends" becomes "Do you have something in common with me?" then becomes, "Do you hate them? me too!" and then... adulthood. If you don't have sports, religion, or an ideology of some kind to find comradery with, it can get lonely at times... and happiness, well, is fleeting as they say. One description I like is that we swim in the sea of despair seeking islands of joy and staying as long as we can. "
