^From about the 3rd Grade onwards, Popularity becomes more and more important. For some, it continues even beyond childhood and school into adulthood. So many people struggle to get in with what they think of as "the popular crowd", but they never REALLY feel like they succeed. They scramble - and for those who DO make it to the top, they find it's very lonely there, and vicious, as there is always somebody clawing and scratching to knock you down and tear you apart. That's why it's better to be yourself and listen to your conscience, despite what others say around you. Otherwise, you just get swallowed up, invisible, alone in the crowd of sames - never really happy because you're always struggling to be somebody that isn't you.^
