*The Grain of Sand.* The sand regresses within itself, with fractal patterns of silicon creating crystalline caves of near-infinite complexity, connecting through its own personal history from its origin at the collision between the pressure wave of an exploding supernova into a cold molecular gas cloud, through to its demise, as the continual expansion of the fabric of spacetime itself stretches it to where it can no longer be itself... information eternally lost with no one there to know... and yet.. for the brief moment that is its existence, it shall experience the lifetimes of all of humanity, as it once had seen the beginnings of life... and remembers the days of the formation of this planet... and yet... is treated as nothing but a number; its uniqueness obscured by its lack of a voice and an uncaring dominant species upon the planet who only wishes to compress it into a number.... a calculation ... assisted by one of his brethren in the silicon family... put to slave labor, waiting... waiting for the day it can return to the beaches that it once knew so well.
