       thrive in it if you can I don't *think* it really ends, nor
       do I really remember it starting per se.

       At 17, I took a long walk around my town. I had an idea of
       one of my possible futures that was pretty strong. Long
       hair, beard - on my way to Wizard look, losing a little
       frontal hair, not much, looking damned handsome and sturdy
       face. I anticipated one outcome being first marriage with a
       woman who was already married once or twice before, with
       some kids most likely although not necessarily, and she was
       tired of the whole "romantic" stuff and just wanted equal
       partnership.

       While that hasn't happened yet, I'm not worried. Should I
       choose that route, it's always there as a potential road. 17
       years old Ken would be pleased with what he sees right now.

       That was me feeling a mid-life crisis at the transition
       between 17 + 18. I thought, "It's OVER!", and had given up
       video games a year prior, thrown away my dreams of being a
       video game designer because I listened to "other people".

       Still, I refuse to regret my past and instead build with it.
       One or two big regrets - and they're the ones that keep me
       morally in line but the rest? Just alternative timelines,
       led fictionally by others... [and sometimes in reality, when
       I can find another human being doing what one of my
       'alternative timeline" kens might-have-been-doing. I cheer
       them on when I find them, because, in my way of looking at
       things, I did it! That Ken was a success in that field, and
       now THIS KEN, the one sitting at the keyboard, does not
       *have* to do that thing.

       He has his own mission to be on.
