I love that language construct too.* "from [thing]".* Probably being raised in Central New Jersey, a lot of Yiddishisms floated around; a lot of the business owners in neighboring Elizabeth NJ spoke in the Yiddish kind of way... some were later generation but they wanted to retain their grandmother's dialect and so they used it themselves.. and it was fun as a kid.* I'd hear it in my trips to NYC as well.* My sister had a love for that way of speaking; when we were kids, she had a funny Yiddish accent she would put on when we would play, and she would be the old jewish grandmother, giving out some kind of life advice in that way. It's an awesome construct.* My mother uses one that she picked up and I picked up from her, akin to "Throw momma from the train a kiss" or "Give your hair a comb". - I love using that way myself.
