I took the same route. Wise! I went to a guidance counsellor at 23. My friend wanted to start a record label with me performing my piano stuff in churches. I liked to improvise/play (still do) and was willing to go along with it. But that guidance counseller gave great advice: I was deciding between computer programming/computer engineering and music. She said, "You have to decide what is your VOCATION and what is your ADVOCATION". I could've done either. Then I looked up the pay scales. [I had other choices too - psychologist, minister, teacher, occupational therapist]... and computer work was WAAAAAAAY higher than the rest... _and_ didn't require a diploma. In the end, I've become everything I ever wanted to become. What I do to make money doesn't have to have to SEEM to do with my true callings in life, and I can pursue them anytime. You can express yourself THROUGH any job that gets you money. I think that's why so many INFPs are waiters / waitresses. We can care for individuals and their needs on a daily basis, serve many people, make them happy. But doing computer work, I could serve and care for people just as well.
