the interactions between people online is one of my ongoing fascinations. Imagine there's a [SET] containing all knowledge I have. It's a complete Universe unto itself. Needs nothing else. But then... I encounter online someone else. *THEIR* [SET] containing all *their* knowledge is compared against mine. Most of it is in common. We share languages, cultural assumptions, nuances of communication - probably 99+% in common. But then... there's that ~1% difference. And in that ~1% is where novel knowledge emerges. It's a beautiful thing. I love interacting with people for that reason. I like reassurances of course. It's nice to get 100%; to get "me too!" "I agree" - and I especially enjoy the 'like' button: I feel my entire [SET] is validated. Yet, then I learn little. I learn "I'm ok", which is probably one of the most valuable lessons anyone can teach anybody else. Yet... at the same time... when there is slight friction... or some novel perspective I never even CONSIDERED.... I have to take a portion of the ~1% of my entire [SET] and recalibrate it to fit the new data. And it can be worldview changing. Those moments I live for.
