One trick I've been using for happiness is saving compliments. When I get them, I save them. They're unorganized but they're saved. Then, when I'm feeling down, I find a few of them. It's easy to take thank yous and "wow that's amazing" for granted, but there's never a guarantee that one will always get them. When shit hits fan and I feel worthless, I can find a concrete time that something I did or said touched somebody in a powerful way. Appreciation is _such_ an important thing. We all work so hard at life, and feel like nobody notices or cares. Once in a while, somebody does. They might even let you know about it - that's even more amazing. Sometimes even a simple "like" can bring somebody from the brink of self-annhilation. "Notice me". Why a dog barks? Why we reach out. "Notice me.". Why do people do bad things? "Notice me". It comes down to that.
