I do straight dry. [cheap]. I tend to do very small amounts but
   frequently, and let their complaining tell me when to feed
   again. Probably 6-8x day feedings at amounts that would barely
   coat the palm of the inside of your hand.

   Or if it's a small cat bowl, just enough for the edge of the rim
   really. My goal is to have MORE visible bowl, less food.

   Why? I don't like cat puke.   [oh and by cat complaining it
   usually means being SUPER FRIENDLY.. .AND..trying to trip me as
   I walk]
