Quite true. I like the room it leaves me though. I get that moment of, "aww dang it!" then a sense of victory, where I can say, Ah ha! you DIDN'T catch me did you!? I mean, a lot of people who are spouting BS don't KNOW they are; they may believe what they're saying 100%. Being BS doesn't require awareness of it. And again... there's usually something true within something that has BS; that's what makes them so effective, and components of BS doesn't invalidate something. One that almost got me was Holographic brain. Another was Ecology - I WANTED to believe the guy who started the Ecology stuff in the 20s 100%... and was close to. But then... bits of the BS started popping up and I could see the flaws. I was kinda sad. I wanted to be a true believer. Closest I've come so far is Lakoff and embodied cognition. I know the BS parts yet I can reject them safely without it compromising the parts I like about the whole embodied mind concept and the importance of metpahors and such. Maybe one day I'll look back and shake my head again and go, "dang it - they GOT ME again, didn't they?" but for now, I'm enjoying the ride.
