I hadn't thought of that distinction regarding harmful but I
   agree; it gets misused frequently, like in the case of your
   friend who considers religion to be child abuse.

   I consider the modern education system to be a form of child
   abuse in a similar vein, yet calling for its eradication is
   ridiculousness. Reform? Sure. Elimination? Destruction? Naw.
   That's silly.
