Oh I agree with you.
   But that event happened.
   She couldn't do her job.
   There were consequences for not doing her job.

   But what now? Now that the original event is over, enter
   politics.

   A singular event that happened, was dealt with appropriately and
   finished, it becomes some sort of 'symbol' to rally people
   around in hopes of getting some people elected into public
   office.
