We don't know what's coming next. America online was thumping
   its chest just like Zuckerberg is now. HUGE mergers, advertising
   revenues out the butt, "We've changed the planet" stuff.

   Compuserve was eaten by AOL long ago. So maybe you're right that
   FB might never fully "die" ... per se...

   I mean... Usenet is still alive. Academics the world over still
   use it; you almost NEVER see a "real scientist" on Facebook.
   They're still hanging out on Usenet newsgroups, publishing
   papers using TeX, just like they did in 1990. The world of
   Science operates on a different plane than we do.

   But, FB _will_ lose its shine and lustre and go the way of
   Compuserv eventually. It's the nature of things.   This group,
   these messages, someday, will be gone. Wiped from backup
   servers. They'll have a sticker on the front, "CLOUD" but it's
   backup servers. a more poignant example... and more dramatic:
   Minitel.

   ALL OF FRANCE was connected.
   All of it.
   Every last bit of France was Minitel.
   It reigned for DECADES... not... 'years' like Facebook. How long
   has facebook been king? 6-7 years? Maybe 8?

   It's peaking. Maybe I'm missing something. Maybe there's
   something new and special with Facebook (besides hype) that I'm
   missing. I'm not trying to be negative here, but I can't find
   the distinction just yet.
