What coaches and teacher do, when it's done properly, is teaching. Corrective measures in the context of a relationship that's designed for the betterment of the student. But poor coaching and poor teaching can cross the line into criticism as well. Even rational criticism, wrongly applied can end up simply being critical. Application of criticism is an art more than a science. == I understand what you're saying: In an either/or scenario, criticizing vs not saying anything at all, can be a disaster. But then there's finer gradients. A time and a place. Social appropriateness. Of course I'm being critical as well by mentioning this: I'm being a critic as well. I'm not anti-criticism in all cases. But it's appropriate in some. == Social appropriateness still exists online, even in the old chat rooms - even today on Facebook. Lots of people might not participate in civility - that's their choice. But it's precisely that which makes my strange adherence to it more valuable to me. I don't expect it out of others. I may ask for it, but I don't expect it. == I'm not saying you're wrong and I'm right here. It's just different choices, each which works for us for various reasons that matter to us. == Not all criticism is wrong. In a relationship between teacher and student, criticism has a strong place. For fighting injustice, criticism has its place. But, there's a time and a place for things. == It's as true as I can actualize it. I have no objective way to measure its truth-value as it's a life-choice - seeking lessons from each in areas that I need improvement on. ==
