I don't think we could resolve the cosmic variance without some
   fancy math perhaps. We have one perspective on the Universe - we
   see it from our planet, at the edge of a spiral galaxy. If you a
   dust cloud, how do you know what's behind it? Hwo far back does
   it go? "
