^bah, stupid trojan. Fake window security thing. thankfully, it
   was easy enough to remove: 1) safe mode 2) remove strange
   entries from Startup (using Spybot's "startup programs" in
   Advanced setting 3) Run Malwarebytes antimalware in safemode 4)
   cleaning cookies and cached files. Still, a pain.^
