We now have the additional test results on Frank's dna. They
   sent two reports, first for the 25 marker level and second for
   the 37 marker level. In the Family Tree DNA database, we have
   matches with 3 people whose surname is Lester. At the 12 marker
   level, we match 11 out of 12 with Howard Louis Lester, Jack
   Lester and Robert Lester. These matches are referred to as
   "genetic distance of 1," meaning that, at one marker, the repeat
   counts differ by a value of one. Jack Lester has not tested
   beyond the 12 marker level. The other two have tested at 37 so
   their results can be compared with Frank's at the 25 level and
   at the 37 level. At 25 markers, Howard and Robert compare 23 out
   of 25 with Frank, which is a genetic distance of two. At 37
   markers, the comparison is 33 out of 37 or a genetic distance of
   four. So what does this all mean relative to how long ago our
   Lusters and their Lesters descended from the same man? FTDNA
   hasa a calculator which determines that on a probability basis.
   The calculator says that there is a 56% probability that the
   common ancestor was within the last 12 generations and a 92%
   probability that the common ancestor was within the last 20
   generation or roughly the last 500 years. Howard and Robert
   Lester match* with one another at 37 markers, so must be close
   kin. I have entered Frank's test results in the Lester family
   project so we can continue to compare with people of that
   surname. There is only one other Luster in the database. He is
   of African origin and has very different dna. Frank's results
   are also entered at a site called "ysearch.org." There we can
   compare with people who have been tested at other labs. We have
   2 other matches with people who have tested beyond 25 markers.
   Both are at a genetic distance of 4. One person is named
   Hathcock but male ancestor was named Perry. Apparently there was
   a child out of wedlock. Some descendants took the mother's name
   and some the father's name. The other match is with a Beauchamp.
   They can trace back to Surrey, England before 1600. What I hope
   for in the future is that other results will come in. In
   particular results from other U.S. Lusters. Perhaps some of them
   will be closer matches than what we now have. It would be very
   interesting to know if Lusters from States other than NJ match
   with us or do not.
