^A rant: Being a small business is difficult in the land of big chain operations, multi-state service companies appearing to be local in nature. The "Wal-mart" model is a *very* difficult system to beat. To be findable on the Internet is tricky - nearly impossible for a small business. I opened http://free.naplesplus.us to help local Collier County small business owners to have a presence on the web, since I understand 100% the difficult of this task on your own. Affordable Trapping has and continues to do quite well in the face of this but... Lately, one of the biggest headaches in the local critter control / animal removal / nuisance wildlife business, has been three or four *large* companies targeting our local market. They do not come from the county, but they hire a local person to do the work, but charge insanely large amounts of money. They get away with it because they have advertising and marketing budgets that are through the roof. They can get their name out there, swaying search engines like Google and Bing to be a nuisance to local folks like us and, unfortunately, there's not a lot you can do except keep plugging away at it, fixing things, making it better and better. It's a headache - and something I work on more than anybody knows - but I really wish there wasn't such a huge advantage to large corporations over the entepreneurs and small business folks. It's been the complaint of the local hardware store (remember those?), the local 5 + 10 store (what's that!?), the local pharmacy (who?) - and so on. I'm all for local competition - I have no problem with that. That's the way things should be. I have no trouble if big corporations can offer lower prices even - But when the local company has the best prices, best service, best of everything but has to constantly fight against the large advertising budgets of companies who rip off the customers, poor service, obscenely high prices - *and* they're not even local on top it, that just grinds my gears. Not just for myself and our company but for every small business person here and across the globe. *rant mode off*^
