Sorry it's been a while once again, but I do have some nice updates to provide for my very tech inclined friends here on SDF. For starters, over the past 7 months I've been working on my Bulletin Board System, Final Zone, heavily. That is to say, I've moved from Synchronet to Mystic, and then from Mystic to, of all things, Citadel. The reason is originally my desire to not only try out new software but, more in the moment, the desire to start an FTP network. The latter I decided against as time passed, and realized what I really wanted to focus on was the creation of a board with a healthy local culture. While novel at the time, in retrospect the idea of networked BBSes is kind of... backwards.. what's the point of going to any given board if all the conversation is just the same echoes on the same networks? No, I wanted to go back to my roots and have something that was just... well, itself. Citadel provided such, as it allows me to trivially modify the message areas without issue, something that Synchronet, Mystic, and seemingly most other BBS packages of the more seemingly advanced design just don't seem to do right. It's a long story and I'm honestly just speeding this entry out for the sake of it, but it suffices to say I'm proud of what Final Zone currently is, and have grown to quite like the Citadel software package. I'll write more about it when I'm feeling more like it. If you want to check it out, as always, final-zone.net, normal telnet port. SSH citadel@final-zone.net, normal SSH port, no password. And of course, if you have the citadel text client installed you can access the server directly via that. You miss my little ASCII art intro, but if you're already a citadel user then you don't need to be razzle-dazzled as you log on to a BBS, now do you? ~Chris 2:57 PM 7/17/2024
