Turmoil The timing couldn't have been worse, but I should have seen it coming. Ocean waves crashed against the gunnels. My ears pounded from the ongoing noise. I could hardly see through the salt in my eyes. I knew this was the end. ..... It had been a long time since I was last fishing. I used to go quite often actually, but that was years ago. I never really caught anything, so I guess I just gave up. I'll never really know what changed my mind, but I decided to give it one more try. Maybe it was this feeling, deep in my gut, that this time would be different. I put out to Sea. The sun was shining, radiating its heat across the blue sky. Maybe, just maybe, I thought. Casting, not really expecting anything to bite, it happened. At first, I didn't know what to do. I jumped up to gather my composure. I was headstrong and determined not to let this one go. Hands clenched, I held on and reeled in with all my might. Some may tell you that this can go on for hours. I'll tell you that hours go by like days. But, I wouldn't loose. Not this day. Tired and weary, but still determined, with one final tug, I had won. Elated and blinded with joy, I sat and stared at my catch. Looking back, I see now it was this bliss that kept me from noticing the encroaching storm. Darkened clouds had long been over the horizon, and now over my head. It was in this instant, the weather changed. The sea turned rough, and the air became cold. The elements hit me all at once. ..... The waves returned to try my boat and its keel once more. As the boat and the sea met, I fell to the boards. My legs were tired and weak. I was giving up. No. I gave up. Lightning strikes the damp sky leaving behind a blinding flash. With a loud shudder, I hear a door slam. My mind begins to clear, as I regain my bearings. I wipe my face dry, as I hear your footsteps fade. You've left me for good... I realize that now. I hear your car pull away, with no intentions on returning. My world again turns silent, as I find myself alone.
