# Living in Emacs *Entered: emacs on daily driver* | *Date: 20221102* *Soundtrack: Bauhaus - Ziggy Stardust* Over the years i have seen dozens of articles about "living in Emacs". And every time I thought to myself, "I should try that for a week or so"... The thing is, I don't code for a living, and I rarely code at all, so why "live" in an IDE? (it's not really an IDE, but for the sake of argument...) Of course, Emacs is so much more than that. So, I finally got around to giving it a test drive. Full disclosure, I can't really "live" full time in Emacs: -My job requires me to be on a GFE Windows machine on their network. -I have a machine in the garage hosting a node and a few radios that can't be managed in Emacs. But for the rest of it, I decided to give it a go on the daily driver (HP laptop) for a week or so, to see what it's like. I put together the basics: browser, email, rss feeds and music player. This may turn into an occasional update series...
