Long week. It's summer time so the hotel where I work is more busy than usual. I come home feeling tired and just feel like watching TV series or a movie. I've been more and more away from the web. It became tiresome. I now only visit, on my spare time, Mastodon and some online newspapers. I also check email. And that's it. Tomorrow is one of my two days off. I might do some Mail Art. I've been a Mail Artist for 18 years. I usually quit most of the activities I get into, but Mail Art I could never quit. So many doors opened when I started to send and receive artistic correspondece. I've been in contact with artists from the whole world, and I participated, and still do, on exhibitions in many countries. All thanks to Mail Art. I'm also a member of IUOMA(International Union Of Mail Artists). Great community. We have an online forum, but we're more active through physical correspondence. One thing I always loved about Mail Art was its open and inclusive nature. It has this principle: Everyone is an artist and everyone can do it. One of the things that make Mail Art so poweful is that it circumvents the institutions. Everyone can put their work on an exhibition whithout the pressure, demands and tastes of galleries and museums. It's also non commercial, which means it is not controlled by a market. I could talk even more about Mail Art, but I think I will leave it for another post. Mail Art matters. Mail Art changed my life. It's past midnight. It's time I grab the book I'm currently reading and flip some pages until sleep comes. What am I reading?: Macao's General History by Huang Qichen.
