STREET MEDICS (Posted 2011-10-07 11:02:24 by ArchPaladin) One particular thing I was exposed to in looking through the Occupy Wall Street movement has been street medics [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_medics ] [wikipedia.org]. These are basically people who address the medical needs of protesters as they go in the streets. They handle basic first aid, sanitation concerns, dealing with chemical weapons (eg. pepper spray), and mitigate and handle the aftereffects of trauma that may have occurred as a result of violence during protesting. Like most protest-oriented things, most of their actions, training, and deployment appears to be very grassroots. They have a few websites [ http://medic.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page ] [wikia.com], but most of what they do appears to be acquired or improvised on-the-job. I suppose that if I were to take part in a protest I would eventually make my way over to this area. -------- There are no comments on this post.
