ONLY ONE (Posted 2008-04-25 14:34:35 by ArchPaladin) When I took the job I have now I came on board as one of two IT guys. The other guy had been there since the company began and was a mix breed of PCB design by trade, and IT by desire. Today was his last day, as he left to go pursue other career options that had by chance become available to him. The situation leaves me with an odd feeling. I have been in situations before where I was the most senior (or motivated) individual in a given area - situations where I would have a responsibility to observe and usually a goal to work toward. But in most of those situations, there was always someone else that I could ultimately turn to for whatever reason. Now, there isn't anyone like that. It even seems different than ILMA, where I am the head of all the business affairs. There, the direction that people go is ultimately set by me. Here, my work is preassigned, but I don't have any support on which to draw. It is both empowering and empty all at the same time. Now this situation won't last forever, as the company is looking to bring someone on to replace him. But in the meantime, I am IT. -------- There are no comments on this post.
