MORE JOB HUNT (Posted 2008-06-13 16:02:36 by ArchPaladin) My interviews for jobs are getting closer into Boston each time. I wasn't exactly looking to going into Boston for work, but it appears that may be the case. Still too early to be certain. I had an interview yesterday that was in Cambridge. Because of the location, I started thinking about how I would be able to commute to the job each day without (a) going insane in traffic, (b) dying in traffic, and (c) giving up my ability to get to NESA without hassle. This led me to wonder how I would be getting to NESA at all, as I haven't really considered that question before now. Of course, I am able to drive there and back home, but I would prefer to keep my driving to a minimum, both because of transportation costs, and because I feel my time is important enough to look for ways to avoid spending 2+ hours in the car every workday. This has led to a more-than-slightly unfortunate realization. My classes at NESA end around 9:30 at night. If I drive home from there (ie. meaning I also drove to campus from wherever), I could make it home by 10:30. I consider this to be late, but acceptable. Now, there is a train station not too far away from campus, and I could bike between them if I wanted. However, the outbound trains arrive at there at 9PM and then again at 11PM. Thus if I took the train, I would either have a lot of downtime waiting at the train (and arrive home later than I like), or I could shortchange my classes. The alternative is to drive. I can come up with similar scenarios with other public transportation locations around campus, and everything generally comes back to my need to be there at awkward times of the day. I hope that they have rescheduled the timing of their classes so that I can get around easy without having to drive. I won't know if that's the case until next month, when I sign up for everything. -------- There are no comments on this post.
