SELFISHNESS (Posted 2009-02-02 15:37:25 by ArchPaladin) This piece of news [ http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/7861762.stm ] [bbc.co.uk] is both interesting and perhaps a non-story. The article references a study showing that parents who engage in overly selfish behavior - the high-strung, get-ahead, entitlement-driven, ambitious kind, rather than merely the immature kind - will tend to damage their kids because their decisions cut into their ability to be good parents. I find this interesting because it's public recognition of a very basic parenting issue. But at the same time, it's a non-story. Who wouldn't think that this is true? If you don't spend time with your kids, or spend time in the parenting process, then of course your kids are going to grow up with misplaced priorities. Why is it that we need scientific studies to reaffirm everything that we've learned from thousands of years of experimentation? Are we that distrustful of our spiritual and cultural leanings? /unrelated Odd.
