COUPLE OF THINGS (Posted 2007-07-20 09:46:46 by ArchPaladin) Firstly, visit this site [ http://www.songstowearpantsto.com/ ] [songstowearpantsto.com]. Some of these are quite hilarious. The site owner makes songs based on instructions that you give him. Secondly, sweet [ http://www.arrl.org/fcc/fcclook.php3?call=KB1PHB&=Submit+Query ] [arrl.org]. I took the test on Wednesday, and had to go visit MIT to do it. They have a rather neat campus, by the way. The one thing that I find both interesting/unfortunate is that the last letters of my call sign (PHB) are tech-speak for "pointy haired boss", referring to the inept boss character from Dilbert. If I get a higher class of license I'll get a new call sign, so that will be something I'll have to do in the future. -------- There are 2 comments on this post: Comment #1 by Krys ( auggiememnon@yahoo.com ) on 2007-07-20 12:02:49 heh Awesome. So do you have a radio of your very own, too? Comment #2 by ArchPaladin ( blog@archpaladin.net ) on 2007-07-20 12:34:26 No I don't. You think would be both a smart thing and a prerequisite for this kind of stuff, right? The whole "get your ham radio license" thing has all been something of an impulse, particularly when I started. I had wanted to get more into radio tech for a while, but hadn't really bothered with it. Then I had the impulse to get my license but didn't really know why I wanted it or what I'd do with it. As I've spent some time studying for the exam and reading over material and such I've come up with some ideas of things I'd like to try, so most of my original ignorance has been converted from "I don't know what to do with this" into "I don't know how to do what I want". Most of these ideas require money though (and permission from the condo association once we move, as there could be antennas involved), so I don't know how that will go. I've been thinking that I should put money down for a small radio of sorts that I could use, but I may save up and get something a little more versatile instead. I'll probably sit down and think over this decision more once the move is finished. The real bugger out of all of this is that I just got my license and in two weeks I'm going to have to notify the FCC to change my mailing address.
