TRADING & OLD LANGUAGES (Posted 2009-12-18 16:37:34 by ArchPaladin) It appears that there was an internet phenomenon [ http://www.oneredpaperclip.com/2009/12/17/the-one-red-paperclip-project/ ] [oneredpaperclip.com] back in 2005 where one man had a single red plastic paperclip and offered it to the public, asking to trade up for something better. About one year and fourteen trades later, he obtained a house. I interpret this as encouragement that powerful and interesting things can happen with some faith. On an entirely different note, thieves' cant [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thieves%27_cant ] [wikipedia.org] is a term for the language invented by thieves and other scoundrels to help obfuscate what they are really talking about to people who are not familiar with their social activities - ie. _scoundreling_. I found a reference [ http://www.pascalbonenfant.com/18c/cant/ ] [pascalbonenfant.com] containing such terms, and when I went to assess the site's validity immediately came upon the term _farting crackers_ to describe breeches. I present the link to you for your amusement, if nothing else. -------- There are no comments on this post.
