DIABETIC GRAPEFRUITS (Posted 2010-09-02 11:50:21 by ArchPaladin) The title of this post is misleading. It turns out there was an article [ http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0012399 ] [plosone.org] published last week stating that grapefruit contains a compound which scientists have been searching for ages. It apparently tricks the liver into burning fatty acid and regulating insulin sensitivity, so that diabetics can use it to help reverse diabetes. (I found this out here [ http://happynews.com/news/8252010/grapefruit-bitter-taste-diabetes-therapy.htm ] [happynews.com] - a website devoted entirely to news with a positive spin. Pretty cool.) While I knew that grapefruit was useful in the treatment of diabetes, I did not know why or how I knew this. It rings a vaguely familiar bell in my mind, like I had heard something similar to this before in one of my classes, but the information had long since been forgotten. Nevertheless, the idea that grapefruits are useful in controlling diabetes is not new - I just didn't remember it. Of course, it should also be stated that diabetes is a condition entirely treatable by diet alone. I just think it's cool that we have more evidence for it now. -------- There are no comments on this post.
